This novel cropped up on book shelves all over the place a few years ago and more recently in the "recommended" and "employee favorite" sections of our local bookstores. Always on the lookout for solid science fiction, especially explorations into genetic experimentation, I picked up the audio book with high hopes. The Blurb: The future … Continue reading Book Review: Thirteen by Richard K. Morgan
I've finally reached the final day of my Art Improvement Hell Challenge! Granted, the 30 day challenge took me closer to two and a half months... but who's counting? The last assignment for the challenge was to re-invent a piece of artwork created earlier in the year. Glancing back through my sketch pad, I found … Continue reading Art Improvement Day 30! Art Comparison
Second to last project for the Art Improvement Hell Challenge! It's day 29 and the assignment was to draw fan art 🙂 I've already drawn a few other fan pieces during this challenge, so I wanted to use it as an opportunity to play with color. This particular project started with an ink outline, followed … Continue reading Art Improvement Day 29: Fan Art!
Chicago is one of my favorite places to visit for many reasons. There's the architecture, food, entertainment, and tons of awesome artwork. My husband and I usually navigate the city using the subway trains, so there are plenty of opportunities to check out the colorful street art 🙂 The industrial brick and skillful paint work … Continue reading Travel Updates: Chicago Trains
Ugh... I spent way too long on this particular piece. Not to self- don't try to shade large areas of shadow using only a mechanical pencil... The assignment for Day 28 of the Art Improvement Hell Challenge was to draw an actor or actress. I chose Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for this assignment. What do … Continue reading Art Improvement Day 28: Actor Portrait of Hugh Jackman
During my latest excursion to the library, I stumbled upon Mirror, Mirror by Gregory Maguire on audio book and was super excited. He's the author of Wicked and Son of a Witch, both of which I loved. I'm a sucker for fairy tale re-tellings and Maguire has a knack for flipping a well-loved story on … Continue reading Book Review: Mirror, Mirror By Gregory Maguire
The assignment for day 27 of the Art Improvement Hell Challenge was a little strange: draw three shapes using your feet and then turn those shapes into characters. The shapes were pretty awkward and so were the subsequent characters: the sad fish, the lopsided bird, and the crazy composer. What do you think?
Day 26 of my art improvement challenge means practicing drawing facial expressions... I picked a pretty simple face to work with, but it's amazing what the simple tilt of an eyebrow can do for emotion and expression in a character. I'll have to keep this in mind when my husband and I start the writing/illustrating … Continue reading Art Improvement Day 26: Practice with Expressions
My husband and I were in Rosemont a while back for Wizard World and we spent some time exploring the area. Rosemont is a small suburb of Chicago, backed up to the Chicago airport and home to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont Theater, and Fashion Outlets of Chicago. It's also the location of … Continue reading Travel: Rosemont, IL
I finally finished my rough draft for Snatched!!! After ten months and countless sleepless nights, weighing in at a final 97,700 words, I feel accomplished 🙂 Granted, it's technically the second novel in the series I've been working on, so it has little chance of actually making it to readers unless the first book magically … Continue reading Writing Update: Second Novel Done!
