Travel: Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is a magic little place hidden beyond the coast of Lake Michigan. This island has an eight mile radius, perfect for a relaxing bike ride, lengthy run, or horse drawn carriage ride. And important to note, absolutely NO motorized vehicles are allowed on the island! It’s a bit like taking a step back in time…

If you make it to the island, check out the Gate House, one of the most popular restaurants in Mackinac. They have a wonderful variety of food- burgers, sushi, milkshakes… If you’re looking for something a bit quieter, step into any one of the multitude of small bars and grills. Try a pasty, a Michigan favorite consisting of meat and potatoes wrapped in flaky pastry.

Besides the food and drinks, there are enough fudge makers, art galleries, and other random shops to keep a travelor busy for hours. If you hear someone call you a “fudgie,” don’t feel too insulted. It’s what the natives call island tourists since it’s impossible to leave town without buying at least a pound of fudge 🙂

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the view!
