DIY Cozy Window Seat

My husband and I have a lot of books so putting up bookshelves was a priority for our new home. We finished the bookshelves a little while back, but we still wanted to create a cozy place to sit and read by the window. Thus the window seat was born!

My husband built the box and cover out of pine boards with 2X4 supports. Once constructed, we painted the whole works with the same semi-gloss paint used on the bookshelves.

He built the seat/cover in two sections so each part could be lifted separately for storage. Each section is attached with two hinges, the same type used to attach cabinet doors. For the seat itself, we purchased four sections of 2-inch thick upholstery foam and several yards of upholstery fabric. The fabric was stapled directly into the wood using a staple gun.

And there you have it- our finished bookshelves and window seat!

Happy Building!
