Pirates in Port Washington

We were just meandering through Port Washington, walking our puppy and minding our own business, when the boom of cannon fire shattered the still morning air followed by the clang of clashing steel.

What the heck?! Not what you expect to hear on a relaxing walk along the lake shore.

Shouts and raucous laughter floated over the calm water. We could make out people in strange costumes wandering past the normally quaint and quiet shops and cafes. Warily, we made our way along the path to see what all the hubbub was about.

Pirates!

In early June, residents of this small Wisconsin community hold their yearly Pirate Festival, complete with sword play, costumes, booty, and ships. Who knew? I managed to get some pictures of the amazing triple masted ship on display, floating in the foggy port.

Happy Wanderings!
